British physicists to develop the analogue of the «impossible engine» EmDrive, working within the grant allocated by the Office of advanced research projects of defense (DARPA). It is reported by the University of Plymouth.

«If our ideas are fully implemented, then for launching satellites we won’t need fuel. In fact, any spacecraft can move in space, if it is a current source. Interstellar flight will be opened for mankind,» said Michael McCulloch (Michael McCulloch) from the University of Plymouth (UK).

In 2001, American aircraft engineer Roger Shoer announced the creation of the EmDrive engine, which, as then stated and as it is today continue to believe his opponents, violates all the known laws of physics.

This device is a conical chamber, the resonator is connected to a powerful magnetron source of microwave radiation. At a certain geometry of the cone, this device will mysteriously move in the direction of the narrow part with a very small, but thrust if the inside of the cone will «walk» microwave.

This behavior EmDrive almost all scientists thought impossible from the point of view of the laws of physics. A few years ago macculloch and his colleagues proposed a «realistic» explanation for this «miracle engine», linking his work with another controversial thing – the so-called Unruh effect.

This phenomenon was discovered by American physicist William Unruh (William Unruh) in the late 1970s. It is an explanation for why there is inertia, and the assumption that it has some «discrete» nature associated with the quantum properties of the vacuum.

Unruh showed that an object moving with acceleration, begins to interact with the vacuum or other environment through which he moves is simply if to speak, then the surrounding area becomes «warmer» for him. This heat, or radiation Unruh, «crushes» on a moving body and forces him to slow down.

The engine Soera, according to macculloch, this heat will interact differently with photons of microwave radiation reflected from the narrow and broad walls of the cone, if the photons have inertial mass and the speed of light may vary within the resonator. Both of these assumptions are highly controversial from the point of view of physics.

Despite that, the ideas of McCulloch attracted the attention of officials from the Agency DARPA, and the Agency has recently allocated $ 1.4 million on a strict mathematical and practical verification of theories of the British researcher.

Plymouth physicist and his colleagues from Spain and Germany will create a full computer model describing the operation of this engine, and then create prototypes to evaluate wow, can he really develop a force of thrust. The first results they expect to obtain in the next 1.5 years.
