Co-Chairman of the faction «Opposition bloc» in the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Yuriy Boyko called on the Parliament to extend the law on the special status of Donbass.

«The Parliament should support the mission Welker (special envoy of the US state Department in Ukraine, Kurt Volker, EDS.) concrete steps, in particular, to continue the operation of the law the special status of separate districts of Donetsk and Lugansk regions,» — said Boyko during a meeting of the conciliatory Council of leaders of parliamentary factions on Monday.

In his opinion, this will give an important signal that Kiev is ready for peace process. The MP reiterated that the party advocates direct talks with all parties to the conflict to return the Donbass in the Ukraine.

Rada in October 2017 was extended for a year the law on the special status of Donbass, which States that a special status for the region will come into force after the fulfillment of certain conditions, in particular the withdrawal of «illegal armed groups» from these territories. In August the speaker of the Ukrainian Parliament Andrei Parubiy said that the decision to extend Parliament will largely depend on the position of the international partners.

Last week, Walker again urged Kiev to extend the law on the special status of Donbass.
