Submarine of the Japanese self-defence forces will participate in military exercises in the South China sea

Maritime self-defense force of Japan for the first time involved a submarine on maneuvers in the South China sea, on Monday non-nuclear submarine «the Kuroshio» came to the Vietnamese base of Cam Ranh Bay, according to a press release of the Japanese military.

It is noted that the submarine, on Board which is 80 crew members, will stay in the area of exercise until 21 September. Submarine accompanied by three squadron helicopter type «Izumo».

This was the first in the history case, when Tokyo sent a submarine to participate in military exercises in the South China sea.

In late summer, the defense Ministry of Japan published the «White book» on defense for 2018 stated that China is implementing a massive strengthening of military capabilities, expands the area of operation of armed forces at sea and in the air, particularly in the East China and South China sea. In turn, the Chinese foreign Ministry called the statement of Japan regarding the normal defense construction of China and military activities are completely unfounded and irresponsible.

Beijing for decades lead disputes with several countries in the Asia-Pacific region regarding the territorial jurisdiction of a number of Islands in the South China sea, on the continental shelf which were found significant reserves of hydrocarbons. It is, above all, the Xisha archipelago (Paracel Islands), Nansha Islands (Spratly Islands) and Huangyan (Scarborough reef). In this dispute, in varying degrees, involved Vietnam, Brunei, Malaysia and the Philippines.
