The number of participants of armed groups in Afghanistan under the wing of the terrorist group ISIS* can reach 10 thousand people, said the permanent representative of the Russian Federation to the UN, Vasily Nebenzia.

«According to our data, the number of ISIS can reach 10 thousand people,» — said Nebenzia at the meeting of the security Council on Monday.

He noted that «the focus of our attention — the growth of terrorist activity «Afghan wing» LIH*, human nourishment which mainly receives from the foreign fighters, who had combat experience in Syria and Iraq.»

«More dangerous is their expanding ideological propaganda and recruiting activities with the skilful use of information and communication technologies», — said the head of the Russian mission.

In his opinion, despite the message about the defeat of the militants and their partial surrender to government forces in Jawzjan in August, «they still retain a strong position in other provinces in the North and North-East of the country to further strengthen its influence».

«We see this as a threat to its borders, and our Central Asian neighbours», — noted the Ambassador.

Nebesa said that occasionally in the fight against ISIS* is enabled and the Taliban movement «mainly in the North and East of Afghanistan, it shows an awareness igilovskoy threats as the authorities in Kabul and the Taliban».
