The Federation Council in the autumn session intends to pay special attention to the improvement of the legislation for the humanization of conditions of detention in places of deprivation of liberty, will develop measures to reduce the level of violence and cruelty in the penal system, said first Deputy Chairman of the Federation Council Committee on constitutional legislation and state construction Lyudmila Bokova.

On Wednesday, the Senator took part in a special meeting of the presidential Council on human rights dedicated to the protection of the rights of prisoners.

«In the autumn session of the Federation Council has decided to pay special attention to improving legislation, which is aimed, in particular, on the humanization of conditions of detention of persons in places of deprivation of liberty. And our main task is to develop specific measures to reduce the level of violence and cruelty in the penal system,» said Bokova during the meeting.

Interest in this plan represent the current debate in the HRC and specific proposals of human rights defenders, she said.

«We will try to find one that you can make at the legislative level. We set a goal in the autumn session to meet again with the Council, in the framework of our Committee,» added the Senator.
