The Patriarch of Moscow and all Russia Kirill urged not to get carried away in Moscow construction of wooden churches to reduce the cost of projects because such buildings do not really match the image of a modern metropolis and are perceived by many as archaic. It is better to build in stone, he said.

«On the one hand, I approve, of course, the appearance of wooden churches, but I would like to warn those who are going the idea of building a stone Church to replace the idea of building a wooden. It’s cheaper and faster, but I don’t think our capital city, a modern metropolis should be built up wooden structures», — the Patriarch said on Thursday at a meeting of the Board of Trustees support the construction of churches in Moscow.

According to him, the recent construction of wooden churches in the capital received a new impulse, and it’s not only about the temporary buildings that were erected before the construction of this stone Church but permanent wooden temples. Primate of Russian Church said, why is skeptical.

«You can imagine a modern building in a modern area. And suddenly such is not a very large wooden Church. Well, as if a piece of the province in the center of the metropolis. What are the implications of doing this people are not churched, maybe not enough know the story of hramostroitelstva in Russia? «You see, this is the present and the future, but it is the past». I don’t think we should create a misconception about the religious factor in the city of Moscow», — said the Patriarch.

In his opinion, the wooden churches need to build both temporary and permanent wooden temples to build «a very metered, only in very specific cases.» «Wooden construction, of course, deserves attention, but to replace the construction of stone temples and wooden because of the depreciation of the project and acceleration, in my opinion, not quite right», — concluded the Primate of the Russian Orthodox Church.

According to the data, which resulted in the Patriarch, in 2010 in Moscow the building program of temples were erected for the 46 churches, another 17 will be completed in the near future, while 25 are still under construction. He thus urged «not to encourage builders to strive for in terms of violation of technologies and at the expense of quality».

In addition, since 2012, has been completely renovated more than 20 historic churches and Church facilities in the framework of grants from the capital budget. In 2018, the restoration work continues in the Christmas, Novospasskoye and High-Petrovsky monasteries, in churches Large and Small Ascension, and several others.
