. In Moscow opens a retrospective of foreign films about Russia «Echo of the unicorn». The program pictures participating in the London festival «Russian film Week» held in 2016. RIA Novosti understood, what Russia sees the foreign Directors.

In addition to the cold war, Russian villains, one of the most popular brands in foreign film — ballet. The festival opens with French film «Paulina,» directed by Valerie Mueller and Angelin Preljocaj. The film tells about a girl from a poor family who dreams of becoming a great ballerina. Her parents sacrifice everything for their daughter appeared at the Bolshoi theatre, but Polina suddenly abandon the career in the main theatre of the country and went to look for your dance style, and along with love, in Paris. It is noteworthy that the main role in the tape played by the Mariinsky theatre ballerina Anastasia Shvetsova.

A little slower moving story, but also fairly traditional Western — a unique Russian theatre. He devoted the Brazilian band «Russian Red» Directors of Novell Martha and Charlie brown. After a series of film adaptations of «War and peace» and «Anna Karenina» foreign filmmakers took on the story by Nikolai Leskov «Lady Macbeth of Mtsensk». British Director William Oldroyd moved the action to Victorian England, where Leskov the characters look surprisingly organic. The story itself is also universal, in a small village with a conservative way of a girl named Katherine who marries a man twice older than myself. Is to be expected, she having relations with young workers from the farm wife.

From the XIX century in the 1970s, takes viewers Estonian documentary «Soviet hippies». Heroes Director Terje Tomita — artists, musicians, homeless people and just a long-haired nonconformists, trying to create your own free world within the borders of the Soviet Union. Years later they make a journey from Estonia to Moscow, where so far June 1, held gatherings to commemorate the events of 1971, when the KGB conducted mass arrests of Soviet hippies.

Another band from the former sotsbloka — «the Chronicles of Melania,» directed by Viesturs kirisa — tells about the events in Latvia in June 1941. The film is based on the autobiography of journalist and writer Melania Vanagi «On the shore Velope». Before the war the main character and her son along with 15 thousands of Latvians deported to Siberia. To survive in the camp help her letters to her husband, who hoped for the liberation of Latvia.

About the modern inhabitants of Siberia, in particular the descendants of the prisoners of the Gulag, tells the canadian film Director Francois Jacob «Nickel On the moon.» Rare opportunity for a foreign audience to see Norilsk — a city of metallurgists in the far North of Siberia. Citizens share their problems: the younger generation wants to go, factory workers nostalgic for Soviet times, intellectuals recalls the dark past, hidden in the archives. But the main «character» of the film — amazing Norilsk Moon, as if created from a Nickel and ice.

The documentary «Placebo: Alt.Russia», as you might guess from the name, dedicated to the British band Placebo. Marking the twentieth anniversary in 2014, the team went to unusual tour of ten Russian cities along the TRANS-Siberian railway. Director Charlie Targett Adams shows how a new generation of musicians follows the path of senior stars David Bowie and Iggy Pop.

Only from 19 to 23 September in the framework of the retrospective will show 13 paintings — seven games, six documentaries and one animation. Russia in them is very different. Perhaps not all of the films managed to get away from cliches and stereotypes, but, obviously, foreign filmmakers are looking for new topics related to Russia.
