Tbilisi to host session of the parliamentary Assembly in Georgia, Ukraine and Moldova

The first session of the parliamentary Assembly in Georgia, Ukraine and Moldova will be held in Tbilisi in early October, said the Chairman of the Georgian Parliament Irakli Kobakhidze.

«At the beginning of October in Tbilisi will be held the first session of the parliamentary Assembly of the Georgia-Ukraine-Moldova,» — said Kobakhidze, presenting to the deputies for approval the project of the session.

According to the speaker, the purpose of the joint initiative is to deepen even further cooperation. Countries present at the session of the parliamentary delegation of 10 people.

«Our joint initiative to hold a session aimed at deepening the tripartite cooperation. We have a common goal associated with Western integration. We are also faced common challenges related to the occupation of the territories. Therefore, it is important for us the cooperation and the pooling of our efforts,» — said Kobakhidze.

Crimea became a Russian region after held there in March 2014 referendum in which 96.77% of voters of the Republic of Crimea and 95.6% of residents of Sevastopol voted for joining Russian Federation. Crimean authorities held a referendum after a coup in Ukraine in February 2014.

Ukraine still considers Crimea its but temporarily occupied territory. The Russian leadership has repeatedly stated that the inhabitants of Crimea democratically in full compliance with international law and the UN Charter voted for reunification with Russia. According to the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin, the Crimea issue «is closed permanently.»
