Icons with particles of relics of Holy righteous warriors passed on Friday, the feast of the Nativity of the blessed virgin, the main Church of the airborne troops in Moscow, told RIA Novosti one of the organizers Dmitry Nesterov.

According to him, in a solemn ceremony in the temple in Sokolniki was attended by representatives of the Russian Orthodox Church, the defense Ministry, statesmen and soldiers of the airborne forces.

The icons with particles of relics of the Holy great-Martyr George, Holy great Martyr Demetrius of Thessalonica, of the Holy righteous warrior Feodor Ushakov and Sainted Martin the merciful, Bishop of tours, said Nesterov, is the Chairman of the public organization «Moscow cadets».

The images of Holy warriors were brought to Moscow the President of the Foundation of the Holy Martyr Boniface Natalia Mezentsev. The relics of St. George brought from Jerusalem, Demetrius — from the island of Corfu, Feodor Ushakov — of Sanaksar monastery in Mordovia, Martin from Germany.

«After the Liturgy, four icons with particles of relics of Holy righteous warrior was transferred to the Deputy commander of the airborne troops on work with staff major-General Victor Kupchishin. The transfer of the relics took place in the framework of the «strengthening of the Russian army» by the world Russian people’s Council with the blessing of Patriarch of Moscow and all Russia Kirill,» — said Nesterov.

According to him, the programme is implemented by the public organization «the Moscow Suvorov», the Foundation of the Holy Martyr Boniface and the Synodal Department of the Moscow Patriarchy on interaction with armed forces and law enforcement agencies.

The Church of the Annunciation of the blessed virgin in Sokolniki, was built on the money of the military Department of the Russian Empire, it was consecrated on 24 March 1906. The temple housed over a thousand people, which corresponded to approximate the number of the regiment in peacetime. After the revolution the Church was closed. At different times it housed the club, a node courier and the guardhouse. In 2004, Patriarch of Moscow blessed to revive it as the Cathedral of the airborne troops. Five years later, on 9 July 2009, took place the consecration of the temple.
