The Orthodox Church, destroyed in 1937 on the orders of the party leadership in the Cossack village of Shelkovskaya in the North-East of Chechnya, rebuilt on a historic site, Saturday will be its Grand opening, told RIA Novosti in the administration of the Shelkovskoy district of Chechnya.

The restored Church returned the former name — St. Barbara the great Martyr who died for the faith in 306 at the hands of the father heathen.

«Restored not only the Church, but built an entire Orthodox complex with a first in Chechnya Sunday school for children, a priest’s house, the refectory and the hotel for non-residents who come to the graves of relatives», — said the source.

He said that the temple is 20 meters, can accommodate 200 parishioners, is located on the shore of the lake on an area of over one and a half acres.

«Construction began in April last year after treatment of the Orthodox community to the head of Chechnya, at the expense of the regional Fund named after Akhmad-Hadji Kadyrov and patrons. For the decoration of buildings was used the best materials, installed 11 bells,» said the official.

He stressed that the opening is timed to the momentous event – the 300th anniversary of the village, which has the most numerous, after the terrible, the Orthodox Christian community of about three thousand people.
