Joint statement by the Patriarch of Alexandria and Metropolitan Sawa of Warsaw shows that the current steps of the Patriarchate of Constantinople in relation to the granting of autocephaly of the Ukrainian Church only exacerbate the schism, said to RIA Novosti source in the Moscow Patriarchate.

The primates of Alexandria and Polish churches in a joint statement urged «all those who influence the elimination of the Church’s confusion concerning the granting of autocephaly of the Ukrainian Church, to do everything in their power to prevent the threat of conflict and approval of Church order to the Ukrainian land.» Now, according to them, Orthodoxy in Ukraine is «in the face of adversity».

«The emergence of the statements by the two primates suggests that the situation of the Ukrainian Church schism, exacerbated,» — said the Agency interlocutor. Handling two heads of churches, he noted, says that «uncanonical interference in Ukrainian Church Affairs does not bring, and postpones resolution of secession.»

«And this is how the last steps of the Patriarchate of Constantinople in this direction is considered by at least two local churches,» added the Moscow Patriarchate.

The President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko is trying to achieve recognition of non-canonical religious structures and of establishing a local Autocephalous Church in Ukraine. Earlier, the Patriarchate of Constantinople «in preparation for the granting of autocephaly» was appointed its Exarch in Kyiv. In addition, Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew has stated that it intends to provide Ukraine Autocephalous. In the UOC called such actions by invading the canonical territory of other local churches.

The Russian Orthodox Church, in turn, went to the actual «break diplomatic relations» with the Patriarchate of Constantinople. The Synod of the Russian Church announced a cease commemoration of Patriarch Bartholomew during the Patriarch’s divine services. In addition, a decision was made to exit from the structures, which is chaired by the representatives of the Patriarchate of Constantinople. Relations of the Russian Orthodox Church with Constantinople was in this crisis only once in all its more than thousand-year history.
