Concern over developments in Ukraine, expressing all the primates of the local Orthodox churches, the evidence of this is the recent appeal by the heads of Alexandria and Polish churches, said on Monday, RIA Novosti head of the Department for external Church relations (DECR) of the Moscow Patriarchate Metropolitan Hilarion of Volokolamsk.

«All primates of the local Orthodox churches, each in its own way, concerned about what is happening (in Ukraine — ed.). And the primates of Alexandria and Polish churches made his statement during the visit of the Patriarch of Alexandria in Poland. As recently as last night I went to see both, we had a very constructive dialogue, and I realized once again how both of the Primate concerned about what’s going on,» said Metropolitan Hilarion asked to comment on the recent appeal of the heads of the two churches.

The primates of Alexandria and Polish churches Patriarch Theodore of Alexandria and the Metropolitan of Warsaw Savva in their joint statement urged «all those who influence the elimination of the Church’s confusion concerning the granting of autocephaly of the Ukrainian Church, to do everything in their power to prevent the threat of conflict and approval of Church order to the Ukrainian land.» Now, according to them, Orthodoxy in Ukraine is «in the face of adversity».

As explained to RIA Novosti in the Department, during the visit of Metropolitan Hilarion to Warsaw, he met with Patriarch tawadros and Metropolitan Savva of September 23, «discussed a wide range of issues involving inter-Church relations».

In Ukraine today there are canonical Ukrainian Orthodox Church (UOC), which is a self-governing Church of the Moscow Patriarchate, and unrecognized by the world Orthodox Church structures — «Kyivan Patriarchate» and the Ukrainian Autocephalous Orthodox Church. UOC has repeatedly reported on cases of harassment of priests and seizures of Orthodox churches.

The President of Ukraine, despite its promises of non-interference by the state in Church Affairs, trying to achieve recognition of non-canonical religious structures and creation on their basis one local Autocephalous Church in Ukraine, outside the framework of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church. The Patriarchate of Constantinople had previously reported that «in preparation for the granting of autocephaly» was appointed its Exarch in Kyiv, they were Pamphylian Archbishop Daniel and Bishop Hilarion of Edmonton Canada. This decision strongly condemned the Orthodox Church, calling it an intrusion on the canonical territory of other local churches.
