Russia is still critically dependent on imports in the field of radio electronics, foreign competitors are trying to increase the gap in technology is not only economic methods, but also through sanctions, Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev at a meeting devoted to import substitution in the field of electronics.

He noted that the domestic electronic industry for a long time focused solely on defense and security, «and in these areas we largely compete with foreign technology», but in the civilian sector the situation is fundamentally different.

«For a long time we treated with a certain purchase of relevant equipment and components abroad, domestic products are low,» said the Premier, stressing that in 2017 the share of Russian companies on the market of radio electronics was about 22%.

«Moreover, and this is probably the most vulnerable position, some of the technology and, accordingly, the products have generally not made. We continue, it is necessary to recognize directly, critically dependent on imports,» — stated Medvedev.

According to him, foreign competitors «are doing everything to the gap only grew, and do it not only economic methods, which is natural in a competitive world but, unfortunately, by political means — through sanctions, and that makes our market very vulnerable.»

The Prime Minister expressed his confidence that the Russian manufacturers are capable to fight for the increase of its share on the Russian market of electronic equipment. «There can and should of course be in demand technological base of the defense industry, well, and civil developments — especially in the modern world, one enriches the other. Before we had a direct transfer of defense technology in civil, now times civil technology has come to the defense industry,» — said Medvedev, noting that this process «should be encouraged».

The head of the Cabinet noted that the state of Affairs in the Russian radioelectronic industry is under continuous attention of the authorities. According to him, electronic devices underpin today’s digital world, «and the ability of the national economy such technology to produce, create and play in many respects defines prospects of digitization of the economy, its global competitiveness».

Medvedev has noticed that the market of radio electronics in Russia is growing steadily. «Experts predict that in the coming decades, year by 2030, the volume will increase somewhere in 2,5 times will exceed 8 trillion rubles. Increases and manufacturing (electronic equipment): growth in Russia in the first half (of the year) was 21% (the same period of 2017),» he said.
