The approval of the media about the Kremlin’s plans to «punish» the Communist party and the liberal democratic party for their election results in the regions are absolutely groundless, said the press Secretary of the President of Russia Dmitry Peskov told reporters on Tuesday.

«Any how. They are not baseless, absolutely,» Peskov said when asked to clarify how media publications stating that the Kremlin allegedly wanted to «punish» the Communist party and the LDPR for the high results in the regional elections, have under themselves the basis.

Previously, the newspaper «Vedomosti», citing a source reported that as a possible response of the Communist party and the liberal democratic party may refuse to assist the passage of the municipal filter at the next election, to align them with regions for elections. Thus a press-the Secretary of the President Dmitry Peskov, responding Monday to a question about how the Kremlin will interact with the new governors who came to power from opposition parties, stressed that the party affiliation does not prevent a productive working relationship that is confirmed by experience.

Communist party leader Gennady Zyuganov and first Deputy head of the Communist faction in the state Duma Nikolai Kolomeitsev, as well as Vice-speaker of the state Duma from LDPR Igor Lebedev has expressed doubt that the Kremlin allegedly decided to punish the party for good results in the gubernatorial elections in the regions.
