Roskoshestvo completed a study of canned salmon, the results of which showed that in General the products on the market are safe and of good quality, but some of the canned goods proved to be not from the best side: for example, the fish in them were substituted for another, and in some cases products had an unpleasant taste and smell, said Roskoshestvo.

To participate in the study were purchased canned salmon 23 brands that occupy a significant market share. Investigated canned food was produced in Russia in Sakhalin, Moscow, Pskov, and Ryazan regions, as well as in Moscow, Kamchatka and Primorsky Krai.

«The products were evaluated on 38 indicators of quality and safety, checking, first of all, not substituting a more expensive sockeye or coho salmon is cheaper, and examining the taste, amount of fish in the Bank and its safety to human health. The results of the study showed that all purchased canned safe and most of them are high quality,» — noted in the study.

One of the stages of testing of products has become study regarding species substitution. «The manufacturer, to save money, can replace more expensive fish to cheaper, but the ordinary consumer is unlikely to notice the difference,» explains Roskoshestvo. According to the organization, the substitution really was discovered in a production number of producers: so, instead of sockeye, chum and coho salmon in some of the cans were discovered salmon.

On taste and color

The organization’s experts also checked the number of fish and broth canned. Roskoshestvo notes that, according to the technical regulations on the safety of fish and fish products, one Bank must be at least 50% of the total fish net weight. «According to the study, all the tested canned food — safe. Specialists Roskoshestvo studied products for the presence of toxic elements (lead, cadmium, mercury, arsenic), pesticides hexachlorocyclohexane and its isomers, DDT and its metabolites, no compounds that would represent a danger to humans, was not detected,» adds the organisation.

Polychlorinated biphenyls (characterized as an ecologically clean place of the fish) and histamine (reflecting the freshness of the product) in all canned food is in the range of valid values. «Not found the experts Roskoshestvo in canned food and Clostridium (including the causative agents of botulism), fungi and yeast», — stated in the message.

In addition, the cans were checked for the presence of larvae. The organization notes that in the preparation of raw material for canned food manufacturer may not see the larvae, but to fear it is not: in the production process preserves are sterilized, which ensures the complete absence of living larvae; secondly, the lifeless larvae are safe for health.

However, non-living larvae of nematodes were found in canned nine brands. «Not less important stage of the research was the study of taste, color and smell of canned salmon. The results showed that canned four brands unpleasant taste and smell,» — said Roskoshestvo. Among other problems, the range of canned fish: the loose texture of the meat, the lack of order when stacking fish, and the presence of canned fish with scales.
