The Prime Minister of Afghanistan and the UN Secretary General discussed the elections and the peace process

The Prime Minister of Afghanistan Abdullah Abdullah said that he had discussed with UN Secretary-General antónio Guterres on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly upcoming elections in the country and the peace process.

The UN General Assembly takes place from 24 to 27 September in new York. The main event will begin from September 25 and will last a week. During this time the UN will act 93 of the head of state, 41 heads of government and 55 foreign Ministers.

«I had the honor to meet UN Secretary-General antónio Guterres on the sidelines of the UNGA. I thanked him for his support and attention of the UN to Afghanistan. We discussed politics, security, the upcoming elections, the peace process, humanitarian issues and prospects for regional and global cooperation,» wrote the Prime Minister in his microblog on Twitter.

Parliamentary elections are scheduled in Afghanistan on 20 October they will be held after a two-year extension that was associated with the unstable situation in the country. The last time parliamentary elections were held in Afghanistan in 2010.

In Afghanistan there is a confrontation between government forces and the radical Taliban*, which, according to the latest data, controls about 50% of the country. Parallel to this, its influence in Afghanistan reinforces the terrorist group «Islamic state.»* Throughout the countries of operations to combat terrorism.
