The President of South Korea, moon Jae-In said that the presence of U.S. troops on the Korean Peninsula will remain necessary even in the event of Korean unification.

To the question in an interview with Fox News channel, if he wants US troops left the Peninsula, South Korean President replied in the negative.

«I can say that the presence of U.S. troops in South Korea is beneficial not only to deter North Korea, but also plays a pivotal role in maintaining peace and stability in northeast Asia. Even after signing the Declaration to end the war, even after the merger I see the need in the presence of US troops in Korea for peace and stability,» said moon Jae-In.

During the meeting with the DPRK leader Kim Jong-UN on 18 September moon Jae-In said that the issue of placing U.S. armed forces in South Korea «depends on the decision of the Republic of Korea and the United States, regardless of the proclamation of the end of the war or the peace Treaty». He also stressed that the North Korean leader agrees.

The Korean war of 1950-1953 ended with the signing of the ceasefire agreement between the warring under the flag of the United Nations by U.S. troops and the North Korean army along with the Chinese people’s volunteers. Until now, Washington has rejected attempts by the DPRK to conclude a peace Treaty until June 12 in Singapore, US President, Donald trump has promised not to seek this at a meeting with North Korean leader Kim Jong-UN.
