Moscow photographer Alexander Mazurov exhibition which opened on Thursday in Kirkenes, plans in the next three years to visit all the Northern regions of the world from Greenland to Alaska to capture people in love with the North and with a special «Northern mindset».

The first exhibition of photographs from the project «Generic» Mazurov opened the border with Russia, Kirkenes in the framework of the international festival of ecological and social cinema «the Northern Character: Green Screen». As the photographer told RIA Novosti, this project was inspired by the phenomenon of «generic», which in Russian is called «americanie».

«The Arctic is the syndrome which were examined by scientists of different countries. One of the manifestations was that the people living in the North, seeing the Northern lights, as if going to the call of the polar star in the trance state. They say, before this? For me it is a kind of allegory, a symbol of the strong attraction of the North,» explains Mazur.

According to him, the project is primarily about people living in the polar regions in different parts of the globe. Alexander has set a goal to visit all the polar regions, from Greenland to Alaska, including all regions of Russia to capture people living in the North and in love with him.

«For me it’s the same as people who love it, relate to it, which pulls to the North. I attribute this to the fact that it is connected with the Northern type of thinking – people tend to not just leave a mark on the world, and to live in harmony with the surrounding world», — says the photographer.

Alexander intends to go to the mushers in Alaska, reindeer herders on the Yamal Peninsula, the whalers in Chukotka, to remove narwhals on Baffin island, however, the first story of the draft is ready – it is about the fishermen in the Lofoten Islands in Norway. While Mazur intends to travel at their own expense.

«Since high school I wanted to get into the cold sea. For me, the North is a place of power, where it’s easier for me to do. I want to show the beauty of the North and the Northern mindset,» explains the photographer. In the nearest plans – the Observatory in the Murmansk region, where they study the Northern lights.
