Deputies of the Smolensk regional Duma of the new convocation elected the representative of LDPR Sergey Leonov, a member of the Federation Council, told RIA Novosti the representative of the press service of the legislative Assembly. The election took place at the first meeting of the Smolensk regional Duma of the sixth convocation.

«The Senator from regional Duma was elected the Deputy from LDPR Sergey Leonov. Voted 42 deputies, 5 were against and one ballot was spoiled,» — said the Agency interlocutor.

Elections of deputies of the Smolensk regional Duma took place on 9 September. According to their results in the composition of the Smolensk regional Duma of the new convocation included representatives of the four parliamentary parties (United Russia, KPRF, LDPR, «Fair Russia») and «Party of pensioners».

Sergei Leonov 35 years, he led the liberal democratic party of Russia in the Smolensk regional Duma of the fifth convocation, is the coordinator of the Smolensk regional branch of LDPR.
