The President of Russia Vladimir Putin has congratulated his Abkhazian counterpart Raul Khadzhimba on national holidays — Victory Day and Independence, noting that Russia will continue to extend full cooperation to the authorities and people of Abkhazia, the press service of the Kremlin.

«The President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin sent a congratulatory telegram to President of Abkhazia Raul Khadjimba on the occasion of the national holiday – Victory Day and Independence… Vladimir Putin confirmed that Russia will continue to extend full cooperation to the authorities and people of Abkhazia in solving the challenges before them», — stated in the message.

Added that the leader of the Russian Federation noted the substantial progress of Abkhazia in social-economic development, building state institutions and national security, achieved in the years since independence.

Moscow August 26, 2008 recognized the sovereignty of Abkhazia and South Ossetia. Russian leaders have repeatedly stated that the recognition of the independence of two former Georgian autonomies reflects current realities and not subject to revision. Subsequently, Abkhazia and South Ossetia was recognized by Nicaragua, Venezuela, Nauru, Vanuatu, Tuvalu, and in may 2018 on the recognition of independence of Abkhazia and South Ossetia announced Syria.
