The first case of human infection by avian influenza virus H5N6, which is potentially fatal, was in the Chinese southern province of Guangdong, said on Monday Hong Kong TV station RTHK.

Infected was the 22-year-old man from Guangzhou city, which on 25 September began to show symptoms of the disease.

He was admitted to hospital on 26 September and up to the present time is in hospital in serious condition.

It is reported that before the onset of symptoms the man had direct contact with live poultry.

2014 is already 21 cases of infection with this virus in mainland China.

Last Saturday, the Ministry of agriculture of China reported a large outbreak of H5N6 on one of poultry farms of Guizhou province. September 7 on one of the farms of the County Huashui in Cannan-Buoys-Mascom Autonomous district there were cases of death of poultry due to an unknown reason. As of 16 September there were 5297 infections, 4948 birds died.

Despite the fact that the authorities had taken all necessary to prevent the spread of the disease measures, human infection could not be avoided.

This is the first case of human infection with H5N6 virus this year.

In China this year was recorded case of infection with another form of avian influenza — H7N4. The most frequent form of avian influenza virus in China is H7N9, which since 2013 has died at least 600 people.
