The Ministry of health of the Russian Federation believes that reducing alcohol consumption is necessary to continue implementation of government policy to limit the availability of alcohol and to prevent the weakening of legislation in the sphere of turnover of alcohol products, the press service of the Ministry.

«The scale of harm alcohol consumption in the Russian Federation remains high. The Ministry of health of Russia believes that reducing alcohol consumption is necessary to continue implementation of the state policy on limiting the availability of alcoholic products and prevention of weakening of legislation in the sphere of turnover of alcohol products», — said the Agency.

«In the framework of priority project «Strengthening public health» is planned communication campaign aimed at reducing the rate of alcohol abuse different groups of Russians», — said the Ministry of health.

World practice shows that the most effective measures to reduce alcohol consumption by the population is limiting the availability of alcohol, price, time, territorial, age and also the fight against drunk driving, said the press service. In this regard, the Ministry carries out activities aimed at reducing alcohol consumption, participating in the formulation of government policy through the work of the Russian government.

The health Ministry recalled that in 2011 changes were made to the legislation, including a national ban on the retail sale of alcohol from 23.00 to 08.00, as well as the sale of alcohol, including beer, in the educational, medical, cultural, sports organizations, and providing additional powers to regulate the alcohol market of the constituent entities of the Russian Federation and in some cases, municipalities.

«The Russian Ministry of health supported the increase in excise duties on strong alcoholic beverage products in 2012-2014, which was successful both in fiscal and health plans. It has been shown to decrease mortality and morbidity from causes directly or indirectly related harm alcohol consumption and the growth of budget revenues», — concluded the Agency.
