The leader of the opposition party «United Macedonia» Yanko Bachiv called the results of the referendum on the renaming of the Republic, victory over the «puppet government».

Chairman of the electoral Commission of Macedonia Oliver Perkoski said Monday that a referendum on renaming of the country by Treaty with Greece for the sake of joining NATO and the EU failed, as had not been overcome the legal barrier a turnout of 50% of registered voters.

«Yesterday we won a puppet government, controlled foreign centre… Although the puppet government wants to distort the truth and present the referendum as a success, the truth is that the turnout was very low, and the referendum failed completely,» said Bachiv, who headed the campaign to boycott the plebiscite.

According to him, the majority of Macedonians are not interested in EU membership or NATO, which will become possible for the country if it changes its name.

The government of Greece on June 17 signed with the Republic of Macedonia, the agreement, which resolves a longstanding dispute about its name and opens Skopje from joining NATO and the EU, but criticized in Greece and in Macedonia itself. The parties agreed to rename it the Republic of Northern Macedonia.

Sunday in Macedonia has passed an Advisory referendum with a question «do you Support joining the EU and NATO with the Treaty between the Republic of Macedonia and the Hellenic Republic?» According to data announced by the electoral Commission, in the plebiscite participated slightly more than 666 thousand people, which amounted to 36,91% of the total electorate. Of voted over 90% were in favor of the agreement in Skopje and Athens.

The Chairman of the electoral Commission Perkoski has told RIA Novosti that the requirement of the law on overcoming the barrier of turnout is necessary for the success of the Advisory referendum. He said the vote had half of registered voters — 903 thousand 169 people, of which 50% and 1 had to speak «for» below, the voting was positive.

The message of the electoral Commission about the recent plebiscite in the next 15 days will be released the official publisher and delivered to the Parliament.
