Representatives of the EU and the United States before the referendum about renaming of Macedonia by the Treaty with Greece for the sake of joining NATO and the EU came to Skopje and tried to interfere in the internal Affairs of the country, urging the citizens to a positive vote, said in an interview with RIA Novosti Russian Ambassador to Macedonia Sergei Bazdnikin.

The government of Greece on June 17 signed with the Republic of Macedonia, the agreement, which resolves a longstanding dispute about its name and opens Skopje from joining NATO and the EU, but criticized in Greece and in Macedonia itself. The parties agreed to rename it the Republic of Northern Macedonia. Sunday in Macedonia has passed an Advisory referendum with a question «do you Support joining the EU and NATO with the Treaty between the Republic of Macedonia and the Hellenic Republic?»

According to GIK announced the results of counting 100% of the material in the plebiscite participated slightly more than 666 thousand people, which amounted to 36,91% of the total electorate. Of voted over 90% were «for» the agreement Skopje and Athens.

«We have not made any public statements in connection with the referendum, it does not look like an attempt to influence the results. Meanwhile, our Western colleagues chose quite the opposite course of action, and it is clear that they tried to interfere in the internal Affairs of a sovereign state,» — said the Russian Ambassador to the Agency.

«In September we could observe the arrival of a large number of high-level dignitaries, officials from Washington and Brussels, who arrived in Skopje and very open, with great effort, convinced the Macedonian people to speak positively on this referendum,» — said Bastrykin.
