Statements by NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg, who promised to take Macedonia in NATO at the beginning of 2019, is invalid, as the solution must first make the parliaments of Macedonia and Greece, said the official representative of the Russian foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova.

«NATO Secretary General Mr Stoltenberg promised to take Skopje in the unit already in the beginning of 2019, leaving no doubt that the parliaments of Macedonia and Greece will take the required decisions… If we are talking about non-interference in internal Affairs, then one cannot campaign for or against, if we are talking about the referendum. If we are talking about non-interference in internal Affairs and respect for the law, including international, then it is impossible for the parliaments of the States, especially the head of the military unit, to talk about the decisions to be taken. To do so is generally impossible, absolutely impossible,» Zakharov said at a briefing in Moscow.

«Or if you need a time to confess so you can do, and then there will be some new world order,» she added.

The government of Greece on June 17 signed with the Republic of Macedonia, the agreement, which resolves a longstanding dispute about its name and opens Skopje from joining NATO and the EU, but criticized in Greece and in Macedonia itself. The parties agreed to rename it the Republic of Northern Macedonia. Sunday, September 30, in Macedonia, was held a consultative referendum with the question «do you Support joining the EU and NATO with the Treaty between the Republic of Macedonia and the Hellenic Republic?»

According to the announcement of the GIC results in the plebiscite participated slightly more than 666 thousand people, which amounted to 36,91% of the total electorate. Of voted over 90% were «for» the agreement Skopje and Athens. The law requires that for a referendum to be held was overcome by the turnout at 50% and one vote. Despite the low turnout, the US, NATO and the EU welcomed it and called successful.
