The detention of Russian ship «Sevastopol» in the South Korean port was probably a misunderstanding, this topic is closed, said Chairman of the Federation Council Valentina Matvienko.

«Most likely, it was a misunderstanding. Believe that the Ministry of foreign Affairs, and the Federation Council before my visit, we are very actively engaged and worked with the South Korean side. And in the end you know the result – our ship was given permission for free access. And this topic is closed» — said Matvienko reporters, responding to a question about detention of the Russian ship.

She assured that the Republic of Korea is now behaving very well. «Some conclusions after this incident is done. Believe that this page is turned,» said the Federation Council speaker.

In August, the South Korean foreign Ministry reported that the Russian ship «Sevastopol» in the South Korean port of Busan is checked for violation of decisions of the UN security Council. Last week, the shipowner, the company «Hudson» has received notification from the South Korean side that the ship is prohibited out of the port. Later the South Korean authorities informed the Russian side that the issue in respect of «Sevastopol» was shot, the ship can leave the port.

As previously reported, the United States made the list of sanctions on North Korea two Russian companies and six vessels, including a shipping company «Hudson» owned by her and the ship «Sevastopol». The U.S. Treasury alleges that they participated in deliveries to the DPRK of refined petroleum products, which allegedly siphoned from Russian to North Korean vessels at sea.
