Food for the Russians — primarily the source of energy and health, not an excuse for communication or means to be beautiful, said the research holding «ROMIR», which is available to RIA Novosti.

The study is based on data from the Skan-panel of households «romira». It is based on information on the consumption of 40 thousand Russians, 15 thousand households in 220 cities in the country, which reflects customer and consumer behavior of urban residents of Russia.

«For the vast majority of Russians (96%) food is primarily the source of energy and health. Almost the same number of study participants (92%) consider food a source of health. 87% of respondents cited food pleasure», — stated in the message.

In turn, 64% of respondents believe food is a means or occasion for communication, and 58% is means to be beautiful and attractive. «Slightly more than half of Russians (51%) stated that they believe food is a simple necessity and are not at the table, no special emotions,» adds the study. «ROMIR» also doesn’t show much gender differences in the analysis of the most popular answers.

«However, as you might expect, the idea of food as a means to be beautiful and attractive, more popular among women. The difference between both sexes was 16%. Thus men more often than women (59% versus 46% respectively) stated that they did not feel about food no emotions,» says holding.

With the beauty and attractiveness of food more often associate the young respondents: people aged under 20 years and 20-30 years, this answer scored 73% and 63%, respectively. «In the age group over 50 years of food as part of a ritual to communicate and perceive more than two thirds of respondents — 69%,» — noted in the study.
