A soldier from Germany died during a training exercise progressive forces of NATO battalion on the ground in pabradė (Svechinsky district) in Lithuania, informs on Sunday a press-service of the Ministry of defence of the Baltic Republic.

«The sixth of October, during the exercises of the advanced forces of NATO battalion Popradskom on the ground soldier was killed in Germany. The accident occurred in the collision with the tree of armored vehicles under the control of the military», — stated in the message.

According to the Ministry, the management system of defense expresses condolences to the family and friends in the service of the deceased.

According to the defense Ministry, is currently investigating the incident involved German law enforcement agencies.

About the accident informed relatives of the soldier. Combat battalion group to NATO’s integrated in the mechanized infantry brigade «Iron wolf» Lithuanian armed forces. In peacetime, soldiers of the battalion of NATO take part in the maneuvers together with the Lithuanian military, in the event of a conflict or crisis, the battalion will perform the function of protection of Lithuania with the Lithuanian armed forces arriving and additionally other allied forces.

At the summit in July of 2016 countries in the Alliance, decided to place about a thousand soldiers in Poland, Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia with the aim of strengthening the Eastern borders of NATO. In Latvia the battalion commanded by Canada, Lithuania, Germany, Estonia, France. In Lithuania in the multinational battalion are troops from Belgium, France, the Netherlands, Norway, Luxembourg and Iceland, only serve about 1.2 thousand soldiers.
