Foreign Minister of Slovakia Miroslav Lajcak reiterated on Saturday his reluctance to run for President of the Republic, despite the fact that in the latest poll about a quarter of the respondents expressed their desire to see lajčák at the highest state post.

About 26% of Slovak citizens are ready to vote in the upcoming spring 2019 presidential election, the incumbent foreign Minister of the Republic, other possible candidates for the highest office in the country has significantly lagged behind lajčák, said Tuesday the Agency Focus on the results of its survey, conducted during the second half of September.

Current head of Slovakia Andrew Pussy has previously said it will not be re-elected for President. Judging by some statements of the Pussy, he wants to create and lead a new political party. The next presidential elections should be held in the spring of 2019, it is expected that their specific date will be announced in November.

«I appreciate the trust of fellow citizens, manifested, in particular, in the survey of the Agency Focus, and are ready to vote for me in the presidential election next spring. I confess that I did not expect such strong support,» — said Lajcak on the sidelines taking place in the High Tatras international conference GLOBSEC Tatra Summit in 2018. His statement was broadcast the network TV channels.

According to lajčák, he suggests that the campaign for the election of the President will be of a dirty nature. He stated that he could not imagine that he stipulated his opponents, presenting them in a negative light. «And I don’t want to play the role of a «lesser evil». I don’t consider myself evil,» — said the Minister.

Although the timing of presidential elections has not yet formally declared their intention to participate already said the leader is a member of the ruling coalition of small party of the Hungarian minority Bela bugar. Ponders the nomination of another representative of the ruling coalition, the leader of the Slovak national party and the speaker of Parliament Andrew Danko. The opposition is already trying to blame him for the fact that he could not confirm the defence of the thesis.
