Participants from 40 regions of Russia exchanged experience in the development of public spaces on the first all-Russian conference of small towns in the town of Vyksa, the press service of the Governor and government of Nizhny Novgorod region.

The first all-Russian conference of small towns and historic settlements, organized by the Ministry of construction and housing Russia, United metallurgical company (OMK) and the Ministry of energy and housing and communal services of the Nizhny Novgorod region, took place in Vyksa from 5 to 7 October.

«For three days representatives of more than 100 cities from 40 regions of Russia discussed in Vyksa the best ideas of the competition of small towns and historic settlements. Vyksa became one of the four cities of Nizhny Novgorod – the winners of the first contest. City leaders and UMC spoke about how he built a dialogue with the residents when choosing the areas for improvement and in each stage of work», — stated in the message.

Governor of Nizhny Novgorod, Gleb Nikitin emphasized that the improvement is one of the main directions of Strategy of development of the region. In discussing the strategy, many of the requests concerned the qualitative improvement of the urban environment – of the courtyards, parks, squares.

«The work we are doing now participants of competition of small towns and historic settlements and the Federal program «Formation of a comfortable urban environment», Vyksa the beginning before the others by a public-private partnership. No wonder she was among the winners of the first contest and hosted the first conference», — quotes the press-service of the word Nikitin.

The head of the region added that Nizhny Novgorod small town will continue to participate in the contest – it was extended until 2024.

At the conference it was also stated that the main criterion for winning, along with the architectural design of the project, the participation of residents and businesses, consistent with other large-scale works (e.g. road repairs) was careful and attentive to the spirit of the city, its historical environment. For the of Vyksa’s industrial history, for Dzerzhinsk – the architecture and layout of the «old city» of Arzamas – spiritual and literary heritage.

The main idea of the contest is that everyone, even the smallest city in Russia to store its history, and this story is relevant and important to residents. For three days the participants shared experiences of how to present at the Federal level, projects that preserve the distinctive spirit of the cities, but it is interesting for residents and tourists. For those who could not come to Vyksa, was organized live Internet broadcast of the debate.
