The exhibition «To the 200th anniversary of the birth of Ivan Sergeyevich Turgenev» opens on Wednesday in the Russian national library in St. Petersburg.
«For the first time at the exposition – creative manuscripts and letters by Turgenev, biographical documents, and photographs from the collections of the NLR. The exhibits will present the classics of Russian literature not only as «the singer of pure love», a subtle and lyrical, but let me remind you that at the time his work caused fierce disputes», — stated in the message library.
Visitors will be able to see Turgenev’s letters to friends and family – Pauline Viardot, Dmitry Grigorovich, Vladimir Odoevskogo, draft manuscripts of short stories from the collection «notes of a hunter» and the novel «the day Before». The exhibition also presents the letter of Turgenev to Emperor Alexander II on the peasant question. In the section devoted to the Literary Fund and the journal «Contemporary», will tell about the interest of the writer to social issues, his involvement in literary and public life.
Visitors will also show the materials related to the embodiment of Turgenev’s works in film, theater and music. In particular, it presents the score of the Opera «Asya» by Mikhail Ippolitov-Ivanov, fantasy the Ghosts of Peter Schenk, frames popular, but the lost film by Vladimir Gardin «the noble nest» (1914), the libretto of Vladimir and Olga Gaydarova So «Yesterday» and others.
The exhibition «To the 200th anniversary of the birth of Ivan Sergeyevich Turgenev» will be open until 9 November.
