At least 12 people were killed in heavy rains and strong winds continuing from the end of last week in various parts of Sri Lanka, transfers on Thursday Agency IANS.

According to him, in total, from the disaster suffered about 69 thousand people throughout the island.

Despite the fact that the intensity of rainfall in recent days has significantly decreased, the authorities warned local residents living in camps and temporary accommodation, do not rush to return to their homes because of possible landslides. The management of Sri Lanka ordered the dispatch to the affected areas of humanitarian assistance, including of food, basic medicines, clean drinking water.

Meteorologists also warn of the impending cyclone «Titley», which is expected in the near future will fall on the coastal state of Orissa, then turn North and go along the coast of the Indian subcontinent.
