A nameless square in front of the hotel InterContinental in the historic part of Prague, received the name of the famous filmmaker of Czech origin miloš Forman.

The head of the city of Adrian Krnacova on Friday announced the decision of the magistrate at the press conference, which was held on novokazansky square.

A native of Czech, Forman, legally emigrated to the United States in the early 1970-ies, is a two-time winner of the award «Oscar» for best Director, he is the Director of such iconic films as «one Flew over the cuckoo’s nest», «Amadeus», «Valmont». Forman died in April 2018 at the age of 86 years.

Area foreman together with the hotel InterContinental is located in the territory, which belongs to the international company J&T. Earlier it was reported about the plans of this company to build in the area a large and sterile office complex, do not fit into the landscape of the historic part of Prague, which protested against many prominent members of the public and some city leaders, including the head of the city.

«New area name miloš Forman’s now officially included in the urban cadastre of real estate, so if someone wants to build up this area, now for him it would represent a big problem, I would even say that is insoluble,» said Krnacova.

Relatives Forman welcomed the appearance in Prague of the square that bears his name.
