The Kremlin is concerned about the decision of the Synod of the Patriarchate of Constantinople for autocephaly in the Ukraine and share the concern of the Russian Orthodox Church on this account, said the press Secretary of the President Dmitry Peskov.

«We have previously said that we are extremely concerned that planned to take steps that can make a split in the Orthodox world. We are very concerned that these decisions were made, because really in this case it is possible to fully share the concern expressed by the ROC,» — said Peskov in response to the question, how in the Kremlin view the decision of the Synod and do you share the point of view of the Russian Orthodox Church on this matter.

The Synod of the Patriarchate of Constantinople has previously stated that it has started the granting of autocephaly churches in Ukraine. It also adopted a decision on the removal of the anathema with the heads of the two non-canonical Church structures in Ukraine — a self-proclaimed «Patriarch» Filaret Denisenko, anathematized by the Russian Orthodox Church in 1997, and Macarius of Maletich (Ukrainian Autocephalous Orthodox Church). Constantinople also declared their rights to Ukraine and annulled the obligation of historical writing in 1686, which gave the right of Moscow Patriarch to appoint Metropolitan of Kiev.

ROC called the decision of the Synod the legalization of the secession and stated that they will cause catastrophic damage, touching the lives of millions of people not only in Ukraine but throughout the Orthodox world. Communication with Constantinople schismatics destroys the canonical Orthodoxy, the absurdity of the lifting of the anathema with Filaret obvious, said press Secretary of the Patriarch of Moscow and all Russia Kirill.

UOC, in turn, did not rule out a break communion with Constantinople and the imposition of an anathema on the Patriarch of Constantinople Bartholomew, noting that he believes the decision of Constantinople for the Ukrainian non-canonical churches, deeply hostile act and interference in the Affairs of the local Church.
