The Patriarchate of Constantinople has made «unprecedented anticanonical action», entered into canonical communion with schismatics and excommunicated from the Church, said Thursday in his telegram channel in the head of the Synodal Department for Church and society and the media Vladimir Legoyda.

The Synod of the Patriarchate of Constantinople on Thursday adopted a decision on the removal of the anathema with the heads of the two non-canonical Church structures in Ukraine — a self-proclaimed «Patriarch» Filaret Denisenko, anathematized by the Russian Orthodox Church in 1997, and Macarius of Maletich (Ukrainian Autocephalous Orthodox Church). Constantinople also declared their rights to Ukraine and annulled the obligation of historical writing in 1686, which gave the right of Moscow Patriarch to appoint Metropolitan of Kiev.

«The Patriarchate of Constantinople suffered unprecedented anticanonical action, a attempt of destruction of the foundations of the Orthodox canonical order. Otherwise it is impossible to evaluate the statement of Constantinople on the entry into canonical communion with schismatics and with a person excommunicated from the Church,» — said Legoyda.

«A proper assessment of the act», he said, will give the Holy Synod of the Russian Orthodox Church at the next meeting on October 15 in Minsk.

In turn, the press Secretary of Patriarch Kirill of Moscow priest, Alexander Volkov said the TV channel «Russia-24» that the decisions of the Synod of the Patriarchate of Constantinople in Ukraine was unprecedented in the history of the «arrogant and aggressive» intervention of one national Church in the Affairs of another.

In may 1992 the Council of bishops of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church deposed Filaret Denisenko from the position of Primate, and in June of the same year already the Cathedral of the Russian Orthodox Church stripped him of his dignity. He refused to obey the decisions and willfully created a non-canonical structure – the «Kiev Patriarchate», which is not recognized by all local Orthodox churches. In 1997, the ROC betrayed Philaret anathematized. Another Church structure, which is referred to in the decision of the Synod of the Constantinople Patriarchate, Ukrainian Autocephalous Orthodox Church was founded earlier in 1920 on a wave of nationalist sentiment in Ukraine. In the years of Soviet power it was repeatedly dissolved and revived in its current form, the UAOC existed since 1989. The self-proclaimed Church structures are still not admitted any of the canonical local Orthodox churches in the world.
