The decision of the Patriarchate of Constantinople on the lifting of the anathema from the head of the schismatic Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the so-called «Kiev Patriarchate» Filaret Denisenko and restoration of Sana’a and the rights of the head of the schismatic Ukrainian Autocephalous Orthodox Church of Macarius of Miletich and their followers — could not be recognized, because it contradicts to the norms of Church order, said RIA Novosti Deputy Chairman of the Department for external Church relations of the Moscow Patriarchate Archpriest Nikolai Balashov.

«The decision of the Synod of the Patriarchate of Constantinople finds itself in flagrant contradiction with the fundamental canonical norms of Church order and as such can not be recognized as valid,» — said Balashov, RIA Novosti in response to the question, does this step Constantinople the position of the two mentioned persons and institutions in the Orthodox world or they remain non-canonical for all other local Orthodox churches in the world, besides Constantinople.

Balashov said that a full «assessment of the current canonical acts of the Synod of the Patriarchate of Constantinople» will give the Synod of the Russian Orthodox Church at the next meeting on October 15 in Minsk.

The Synod of the Patriarchate of Constantinople has previously stated that it has started the granting of autocephaly churches in Ukraine. It also adopted a decision on the removal of the anathema with self-proclaimed «Patriarch» Filaret Denisenko, anathematized by the Russian Orthodox Church in 1997, and the return of Makarios to the Sana Maletic (Ukrainian Autocephalous Orthodox Church). Constantinople also declared their rights to Ukraine and annulled the obligation of historical writing in 1686, which gave the right of Moscow Patriarch to appoint Metropolitan of Kiev.

ROC called the decision of the Synod the legalization of the secession and stated that they will cause catastrophic damage, touching the lives of millions of people not only in Ukraine but throughout the Orthodox world. Communication with Constantinople schismatics destroys the canonical Orthodoxy, the absurdity of the lifting of the anathema with Filaret obvious, said press Secretary of the Patriarch of Moscow and all Russia Kirill.

UOC, in turn, did not rule out a break communion with Constantinople and the imposition of an anathema on the Patriarch of Constantinople Bartholomew, noting that he believes the decision of Constantinople for the Ukrainian non-canonical churches, deeply hostile act and interference in the Affairs of the local Church. The ROC does not recognize the removal of the anathema and return to Sana’a to Kiev dissenters© RIA Novosti / Vitaly Policypro Autocephalous
