The Ukrainian Orthodox Church expressed hope that the Orthodox world will give objective estimation to the decision of the Synod of the Patriarchate of Constantinople for autocephaly in the Ukraine.

«What happened at the Synod in Istanbul yesterday, shook the entire Orthodox world. It seems that the Constantinople Patriarchate deliberately getting in the way of division of the world of Orthodoxy. Patriarch Bartholomew ignored the appeals of the local churches to convene a meeting of the primates in order to develop a General and unified solution to the Ukrainian Church issue and unilaterally adopted a very serious, but bad decisions. I hope that world Orthodoxy would give this act an objective evaluation,» — said the managing Director of the UOC Metropolitan of Boryspil and Brovary Antony.

According to him, the final document of the Synod of Constantinople raises more questions than it answers. Particularly unclear is the status of the schismatic structures of the so-called «Ukrainian Orthodox Church-Kyivan Patriarchate and Ukrainian Autocephalous Orthodox Church.» It is unclear what procedure will the appeal of Philaret Denisenko, and there is a lot of other issues.

The Synod of the Patriarchate of Constantinople has previously stated that it has started the granting of autocephaly churches in Ukraine. Constantinople also decided to cancel the anathema of all the bans imposed by the Russian Church at the head of the non-canonical Church Filaret Denisenko. The leader of another schismatic structures in Ukraine, Macarius, Maletić, and Denisenko followers «are restored to their hierarchical or priestly titles,» and their flock to be «restored to fellowship with the Church.»

Constantinople also declared their rights to Ukraine and annulled the obligation of historical writing in 1686 on the transfer to the Moscow Patriarchate of the Kyivan Metropolitanate, which gave the right of the Patriarch to appoint Metropolitan of Kiev.

In addition, the Synod of the Orthodox Church of Constantinople adopted a decision «to restore immediately the stavropegic Ecumenical Patriarch in Kyiv, one of his many stauropegic monasteries in Ukraine, who have always existed.» The stavropegic is a representative office, directly subordinate to the Patriarch of Constantinople.
