The meeting of speakers of parliaments of the countries of Eurasia is a good alternative to the parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE), said the speaker of the state Duma Vyacheslav Volodin.

Speaker of the state Duma from 7 to 9 October paid a working visit to the Turkish Antalya to participate in the third meeting of speakers of parliaments of the countries of Eurasia. Topics of the event were the issues of economic cooperation, environmental issues and sustainable development in Eurasia. The meeting adopted an outcome statement, they, in particular, advocated a political settlement in Syria and a peaceful resolution of the North Korean nuclear issue.

«Agenda: economic development, environmental protection, sustainable development of countries. We discussed security issues, fight against terrorism. Not only has the subject and there is a great need to discuss the problems that can be solved, overcome only jointly. The interest for a dialogue like this is huge. This is a good alternative (PACE), because we can’t dwell on the parliamentary structure, which takes and against all odds is absolutely not a constructive position», — said Volodin, the TV channel «Russia 1».

The speaker noted that inter-parliamentary cooperation with the European countries continues. «Until the end of the year the State Duma will arrive the delegation of Serbia, Austria, Czech Republic… Our colleagues the very next week I leave for a return visit to the Bundestag. We are constantly engaged in dialogue,» — said Volodin.

Russia may be excluded from the Council of Europe if Moscow will not resume payments to the budget of the organization next year, as stated previously, the CE Secretary General Thorbjorn Jagland, speaking at the debate on the European future.
