Dagestani experts of the perinatal center «Mother Patimat» reported the first blood transfusion to a child being in the womb, reports a press-service medical facilities.

The surgery was conducted by doctors of the Department of pathology of pregnancy of the centre.

«This procedure — a modern approach to the management of RH-conflict pregnancy. Surgery intrauterine blood transfusion will save the fetus with blood incompatibility with the mother’s blood,» — said the press service.

The spokesman noted that the problem is one of the leading causes of perinatal morbidity and mortality.

«Previously, to conduct such operations many patients had to travel outside the States, but now many young families have the opportunity to avoid the problem of RH-conflict, to convey and deliver a healthy child», — said the press service.
