The Russian Orthodox Church were disappointed by the statements of Patriarch Bartholomew of Constantinople that it will be forced to accept the autocephaly of the Church in Ukraine, and considers unacceptable such as «dictations,» said RIA Novosti Deputy Chairman of the Synodal Department for Church and society and the media Vakhtang Kipshidze.

On the eve of Patriarch Bartholomew stated that it will not retreat on the issue of granting autocephaly churches in Ukraine, despite calls from the Russian Orthodox Church, and expressed confidence that Moscow will be forced to obey his decisions. According to him, the ROC has «no choice».

«Unity of world Orthodoxy have always been built on a brotherly attitude to the needs and concerns of each local Orthodox Church based on the fact that each one has equal value in the family of local churches, and in the face of God,» said the Kipshidze.

He added that any deviation from this spiritual Foundation of world Orthodoxy «threatens its integrity and safety».

In mid-October, the Ecumenical Patriarchate announced that it begins the granting of autocephaly of the non-canonical Church in Ukraine. In particular, he recalled the act of 1686 on the transfer of the Kiev diocese in the jurisdiction of the Moscow Patriarchate, and abolished the anathema imposed by the Russian Orthodox Church at the head of the self-proclaimed «Kiev Patriarchate» Filaret and the leader of the non-canonical Ukrainian Autocephalous Orthodox Church Macarius.
