A group of scientists from 29 Nobel prize winners and six of mathematicians, awarded Vildavsky medals, urged the Cabinet of Britain «sit and listen» about the negative effect that Brexit may have on science, according to the newspaper the Independent, citing a letter to scientists.

According to the newspaper, a letter signed by the scientists was addressed to the Prime Minister of great Britain Teresa may and the President of the European Commission Jean-Claude Juncker.

«Hard Brexit could ruin British science, so the government need to sit down and listen to us. The vast majority of negative sentiment towards Brexit cruel scientists should be a Wake-up call to countries and governments,» said Nobel prize winner in medicine and physiology, the British biochemist Paul nurse.

According to scientists, a British exit from the EU could create barriers to scientific collaboration, which is a powerful stimulus for European studies.

«We need a deal that will provide the replacement of the lost by Brexit part of science funding, a deal that would preserve the freedom of movement for talented scientists and give them to feel that in this country, too», — said in the letter scientists.

The UK will leave the EU on 29 March 2019. While the transition period is planned to organize in the relations of the EU and Britain in case of reaching agreement on the terms Brexit is defined in 21 months — until the beginning of 2021.
