Beijing will not tolerate blackmail from any of the countries, said the spokesman of the Chinese foreign Ministry, Hua Chunying, commenting on the words of Donald trump about the necessity of China’s accession to the Treaty on the elimination of intermediate range (the INF Treaty).

On the eve of the American leader said that Beijing needs to enter into the agreement. He added that the United States will increase the number of nuclear weapons as long as Russia and China «will not come in.»

«Yesterday, I have already expressed China’s position: the agreement between the United States and the former Soviet Union, it is bilateral,» — recalled the diplomat.

China will continue to adhere to the defensive nature of its national defense policy, said Chunying.

Beijing also encourages US not to swim against the tide and think twice before taking any decision on this issue, she added.

The INF Treaty

The Treaty on the elimination of intermediate and short range — the agreement between the USSR and the USA, signed in 1987: the parties undertook to destroy all systems of ballistic and cruise missiles, ground-based medium (1000-5500 km) and small (from 500 to 1000 km) range, and not produce, not to test and not to deploy them in the future.

Since then Moscow and Washington have periodically accused each other of violating the agreement.

Recently, trump announced that Washington does not intend to comply with the INF Treaty, as Moscow does.
