The positions of Russia and Italy on many regional and international issues are similar, the Russian Federation supports the efforts of the Italian side to promote the Libyan settlement, including the initiative to hold an international conference on Libya in Palermo on November 12-13, Russian President Vladimir Putin.

«In the discussion of topical issues of international and regional agenda stated that for many of them the positions of Russia and Italy are close. The Russian side supports the Italian efforts to assist the Libyan settlement, in particular the initiative on 12-13 November in Palermo for the international conference on Libya. Mr Prime Minister today discussed it in detail», — Putin said Wednesday at a press conference after talks with Prime Minister of Italy, Giuseppe Conte.

Putin also said that he and Italian Prime Minister exchanged views on the situation in Syria.

«We have informed Mr. Conte about the steps taken by Russia, including in the framework of the Astana format, to promote a political settlement and intensification of inter-Syrian negotiations. Also discussed the possibility of combining the efforts of the world community to provide humanitarian assistance to this long — suffering country,» he said.

The Russian President stressed that the recovery of ATS will allow to create favorable conditions for the return of refugees, thereby reduce migratory pressure on European countries and Syria’s neighbours.
