Russia hopes for further cooperation with Cameroon, said the Russian foreign Ministry on the results of the presidential elections of this country.

«Moscow hopes that the elections will contribute to further advancement of the Cameroon society for sustainable political and socio-economic development. We Express our readiness to continue cooperation with the yaoundé for the benefit of our peoples and in the interests of strengthening peace and stability on the African continent,» — said the foreign Ministry.

The Ministry also noted that observers from the African Union «has not observed serious violations that could affect the results of the expression of the Cameroonian citizens, said the transparency of the electoral process.»

The President of Cameroon Paul Biya on 7 October was the seventh time re-elected head of state.

According to the constitutional Council, for 85-year-old Biya voted of 71.28% of voters, his closest rival, opposition leader Maurice Kanto only got 14,23% of the vote.

Manages Biya of Cameroon since 1982. In the last election in 2011, the opposition tried to challenge the election results, but the claim was rejected by the court.
