Athens said that when determining the boundaries of its exclusive economic zone (EEZ) Greece is not going to take into account the theory of Turkey, which is a violator of international law.

The Minister of defence of Turkey, Hulusi Akar on Thursday, responding to a question about new American bases in Greece, stated that Athens must comply with the agreement on the demilitarization of the Islands, to respect international law and treaties not to make provocations. Earlier, the ACAR hinted that Ankara will take the necessary measures, if Greece would violate its rights in the Aegean sea in connection with plans to extend territorial waters to 12 miles. He also warned that Turkey will not tolerate further threats to Turkish vessels in the Eastern Mediterranean, working on the Turkish shelf.

«The demarcation of the EEZ of Greece as a whole will be determined on the basis of international law and, of course, without taking into account of unjustified and arbitrary theories which are accepted a violator of international law by Turkey,» noted the Greek foreign Ministry in connection with the statements of Turkish Minister of defense.

«With regard to the issues of demilitarization, the known position of Greece derived solely from international law and the UN Charter, and there is no doubt», — said in a statement received by RIA Novosti.

It is emphasized that Greece is not going to get involved in aggressive rhetoric. «We call on neighboring Turkey to behave with due seriousness and commitment to the principles of international law and the UN Charter,» — said in a statement.
