The Primate of the non-canonical Church structures of Ukraine Filaret stated that the laurels of the UOC can be transferred to the Ukrainian Autocephalous Church only on a voluntary basis.

The authorities in Kiev and non-canonical Church structure in Ukraine hope till the end of the year to receive the Tomos of autocephaly from Constantinople, but Tomos can get the Primate of the «United» Church, it needs to select on the «unification Council» of the Orthodox churches in Ukraine, which date is not appointed yet. This canonical UOC said that is not going to participate in this event.

«Now a lot of speculating on matters Laurel. First, we need to know what all the accolades are on the territory of Ukraine, and if they are on the territory of Ukraine they are Ukrainian shrines. But the transition to the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Russian Church should only be voluntary, that is, the brethren of these Laurel must voluntarily choose Ukrainian Church. I believe that sooner or later the credit will go to the Ukrainian Church without violence. What time is necessary, I don’t know,» said Filaret in a press conference on Friday.

According to him, the same applies to the other churches, which belong to the UOC.

«As for the temples, areas, temples are owned by the community and if the community goes to the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, she goes to temples, if transferred to the Russian Orthodox Church, natural Church remains with them,» — said Filaret. He also underlined that he is strongly opposed to violent seizure of churches.

He explained that the issue of transition of the temple should be resolved at the meeting of the parish – the decision is approved if voted for by two-thirds of the parish. Filaret said that if two-thirds of the parish will vote for the transition to the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, they will go there together with the temple.

«We will not tolerate any violence and will not give grounds for Moscow to interfere in Ukrainian Affairs, in our Church, the Ukrainian business» — said Filaret.

«Between the Kiev Patriarchate and the Ukrainian Autocephalous Church is no confusion that both we and they stand for the Autocephalous Church. And those differences that exist between some of the bishops, I think at the Council we will solve them», — said Filaret at a press conference on Friday.

Kiev-Pechersk and Pochaev Lavra is located in the jurisdiction of the canonical Ukrainian Orthodox Church. In the Pechersk monastery are located the residence of the Primate of the UOC Metropolitan Onufrii and the Synodal departments.

For «the perpetration of a split in the Church» and «the dictates and blackmail», «perjury» and a number of other acts Metropolitan Filaret (in the world Mikhail Denisenko) in 1992 by decision of the Council of bishops of the Russian Orthodox Church was «cut off from Sana» and deprived of all degrees of the priesthood. Two years later «due to the lack of repentance on the part of the monk Philaret» the Council of bishops of the Russian Orthodox Church warned him of a possible anathema. As a result, in February 1997, he was excommunicated from the Church.

Other local Churches around the world, including Constantinople and personally its Primate Patriarch Bartholomew, supported the decision of the Moscow Patriarchate Filaret relatively. He created the schismatic «Kiev Patriarchate» still was not recognized by any local Orthodox Church, and only canonical structure in Ukraine considered Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Moscow Patriarchate. This is evidenced by the documents, including the letter of Patriarch Bartholomew to Patriarch Alexy II, interviews and other media publications. However, on 11 Oct 2018 the Patriarchate of Constantinople decided to remove Filaret’s anathema and restore it, as well as one of the schismatic Ukrainian leader Macarius (Miletich) and their followers «in their priestly or Episcopal rank» and «their faithful to return to Church fellowship.»«Kiev Patriarchate» want to get a Kiev-Pechersk and Pochaev Lavra© RIA Novosti / Vitaly Policypro Autocephalous
