The President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko said that he fully trusts his Belarusian counterpart Alexander Lukashenko and grateful for his peace efforts to resolve the conflict in the Donbass.
«I am grateful for the initiative, about which we agreed that the negotiations about the transformation of war, the cessation of aggression of Russia against Ukraine we spent in Minsk», — said Poroshenko, speaking at a forum in Gomel on Friday.
He thanked the Belarusian President for the efforts he is making to resolve the conflict in the Donbass.
«Do I trust Lukashenko? 100%! And we talked about this today. How important is its mission? Extremely important, as the mission of Belarus», — said Poroshenko.
The Ukrainian authorities in April 2014 began a military operation against the breakaway LC and the DNI, which declared independence after a coup in Ukraine in February 2014. The settlement of the situation in the Donbass is discussed, including during meetings in Minsk the contact group, which from September 2014 adopted three documents regulating the steps to de-escalate the conflict.
Kiev has repeatedly accused Moscow of meddling in Ukraine’s Affairs. Russia denies it and calls such accusations unacceptable. Moscow has repeatedly stated that it is not a party to domestic conflict and is interested in Ukraine overcame political and economic crisis.
