Russians often want to assign names to airports military (34%) and academics (33%), according to VTSIOM. The initiative opinion poll about how Russians refer to the initiative to add to the names of airports names of eminent persons, was held on 21 October 2018 in 37 regions to be covered by the project «Great names of Russia». The survey involved the Russians at the age from 18 years.

Another 24% among young people (18-24 years 43%) believe that airports should be named after figures of culture and art. According to 17% of survey participants, it is better to assign names to airports social workers, and 11% prefer to give names of outstanding workers.

The initiative to give airports the names of prominent Russians approve 53% of the inhabitants of the cities, 50% urban residents and 48% of rural residents. Least likely to support the initiative are residents of Moscow and St. Petersburg (44%).

In addition, 51% of respondents would want an airport in their region was named after the outstanding Russian (higher among residents of cities and towns with a population from 500-950 thousand people, 55 and 57%, respectively). Of them every second (52%) believes that it is better to assign the airport name countryman, a famous person from the region. However, 39% of respondents say that it is not necessary to assign the airport name countryman, you can call in honor of a significant person at the level of the whole country (61% among residents of Moscow and St. Petersburg).
