Prerequisites for the emergence of the shortage of sugar in the domestic market are not available, said RIA Novosti in the press service of the Ministry of agriculture of the Russian Federation.

As noted in the Department, in recent years, the sugar industry reached a record production of sugar from sugar beets. So, in 2017, the production was 6.7 million tons, which will fully replace the production of sugar from raw cane sugar and increase sugar exports in 2017 and to record levels (550 thousand tons).

«Domestic consumption of sugar is around 5.8 million tonnes and the production of not less than 6 million tons per year, the carryover stocks at the beginning of 2018 (4.8 million tonnes) is fully guaranteed. In this regard, preconditions for the emergence of the sugar deficit on the domestic market do not have,» the Ministry added.

The Ministry of agriculture also noted that producer prices for sugar are highly volatile. The Ministry notes that in 2017 the price of manufacturers have developed low (at 22.98 rubles per kilogram) and corresponded to the level of 2013 (23 rubles per kilogram). «Profitability was low and didn’t provide the normal profitability of businesses,» said the Ministry.

In 2018, producer prices (35,95 rubles per kilogram) recovered to a level in 2016 (when they amounted to 36.9 rubles per kilogram). «At these prices, producers can ensure the stable operation of production and processing and to increase export potential», — stressed in the Ministry of agriculture.
