Embassy of Poland in Ukraine appealed to the Ukrainian foreign Ministry regarding the intention of the authorities of the city to remove a number of sculptures from the Polish memorial in the cemetery, said Friday the Minister of foreign Affairs of Poland Jacek Czaputowicz.

Earlier, the Lviv regional Council decided to remove from the memorial eagles lions. The regional Council decided that they «illegally installed» and «symbolize the Polish occupation of the city.»
«I have been informed about the situation of the sculptures in the cemetery of the city. Today our Embassy addressed the Ukrainian foreign Ministry on this issue… I Hope it is still possible to reach an understanding,» said Czaputowicz.
According to the Minister, on Tuesday, the question he raised at the meeting with the foreign Minister of Ukraine Pavlo Klimkin. «I drew attention to the huge symbolism of the cemetery of Eaglets. Minister Klimkin went from Warsaw to Lviv and promised to help resolve this issue», — said Polish Minister.
In recent years, relations between Kiev and Warsaw tensions, mostly on the background of discussions about events that relate to matters of historical memory. In Warsaw, condemned the position of Kiev on the glorification «of the organization of Ukrainian nationalists — Ukrainian insurgent army»* and criticized the regular acts of vandalism against the Polish places of memory in Ukraine.
